CoolCAD Services

CoolCAD’s team of scientists and engineers are passionate about sharing their expertise in the design and fabrication of power devices and integrated circuits. That’s why we provide a broad range of services including circuit simulation and thermal modeling, circuit design, micro-fabrication and testing. We are here to help!

Device & Circuit Design

At CoolCAD we design custom SiC power devices and integrated circuits composed of either silicon or SiC. We also convert standard Si-based designs into high-performance SiC-based products.

We are experts in modeling and simulation of electronic devices and circuits. We have numerous proprietary CAD tools in-house (such as Monte Carlo simulators) that give us design capabilities beyond what is available elsewhere. And our extensive experience in semiconductor design and fabrication are valuable resources that have helped transition many new semiconductor design ideas into successful tangible products.

Micro-Fabrication of SiC Electronics

CoolCAD provides electronics manufacturing services including optical lithography, dry and wet etching, oxidation, annealing chemical vapor deposition, e-beam evaporation and sputtering. We also offer a proprietary Process Design Kit (PDK) for use by our customers to convert schematics into GDS-II files for fabrication.

Cryogenic Testing

CoolCAD can perform cryogenic testing of dies and packaged devices for evaluating the effects of cryogenic temperatures on electronics. These tests use a cryogenic probe station and liquid helium or liquid nitrogen to achieve cryogenic temperatures of -269°C (liquid helium) or -196°C (liquid nitrogen). We can also perform “liquid helium-free” closed cycle cryostat testing at -269°C.

Radiation Testing

CoolCAD specializes in radiation testing of power devices such as SiC FETs, diodes and IGBTs and can also test discrete and passive devices and sensors.

  • Terrestrial neutron testing is performed at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center with the world’s best atmospheric neutron simulator.
  • Heavy ion radiation testing can be performed at various temperatures with different ions and energies to simulate worst case conditions.
  • Ionizing dose radiation testing uses a dry Co-60 source, x-rays, e-beams, protons or other gamma rays to determine long-term performance degradation due radiation.
